UPDATE: Patience has been at the children's home for 18 months now - and she has done so well. Her foot has healed nicely but even more her little soul and spirit have healed so much since coming into the care of our partners. She loves school and enjoys her life with so many new sisters and brothers. We have watched her come out of her shell and become less shy and much more giggly and talkative when we have visited. She's a special little girl and we are now in need of a new sponsor. Her current sponsor has had some life changes and needs to redirect those funds. We would love to have someone that wants to really connect with her - sending letters, letting her know how special she is and how life holds so much promise for her.

ORIGINAL STORY:

We met Patience during the trip to Mt Elgon for the Jigger removal clinic. She came in with a huge abscess on her foot that needed drained but it was so full of fluid that it wouldn't drain out. She was in so much pain and It broke our hearts to hear her  crying as the nurse worked on her. When we went to see where her parents were and talk to them about her injury we came to the sad realization that her mother passed away in 2010 and her father left them to the care of the mother's sister due to the fact that he did not have a job and had no means to care for Patience and her sister Vivian. The father was full of shame for not being able to care for his daughters and threatened that if their aunt (Sarah),  did not take both girls  something bad might happen to them. Out of concern for the girls welfare Sarah took them in. Sarah volunteers as a teacher at a local school and is sometimes gifted a small sum of money for her work but it is very unstable and she has not been paid for months now. With the two girls and one of her own, Sarah struggles to put food on the table and the girls rarely go to school. Patience needed rescued out of this situation due to her severe injury so we moved her into the orphanage to receive medical care even without a sponsor. Being moved to the orphanage has brought tears of concern as she is now separated from her sister. Vivian longs to go to school and have a safe home with Patience, We need a sponsor for both girls;  would you partner with MAF and sponsor one of these beautiful girls. They both are in great need and  deserve a better life, a happy home to live in. Would you be able change one of these  girls' lives for the better? Thank you for helping and becoming an American Mum or Dad to Patience.
