Dear Irene, she lost her dad when she was only 1 year old. He was killed during a time of national unrest in Kenya during the elections of 2007. It was a horrible time in Kenya as tribal tensions saw many people killed through out the country. Unfortunately her father was among them. Since that time she has lived on the streets of Kitale with her mom and younger sister, who was born shortly after the death of her dad. Irene's mom was orphaned at a young age, so she has had no family to turn to for help.
Irene's situation came to the attention of our partners at Seed's Ministry recently as her mom was seeking help for the girls. She has been having difficulty supporting them with just the bare essentials and their health is suffering. So our partners have reached out to us for sponsors for both girls so they can have a safe place to live and all their needs provided - as well as being able to attend school.
